Dr Mark Webber heads up a research group at the Quadram Institute, Norwich, which studies the molecular mechanisms of antibiotic resistance. His particular focus is on understanding how, where, when and why bacteria evolve antibiotic resistance.
Specifically, Mark is interested in finding out how bacteria adapt to antimicrobial pressure within a biofilm. His research uses a variety of contemporary molecular microbiology approaches to study bacterial survival and resistance mechanisms in conditions relevant to the food chain.
Mark studied and established his research career at the University of Birmingham during which time he was awarded a BBSRC David Phillips fellowship. He joined the Institute of Food Research in 2016, just before it became Quadram Institute Bioscience in 2017.
Mark has published over 60 articles relating to antimicrobials and has acted as an editor for the Journals of Antimicrobial Chemotherapy and Medical Microbiology as well as PLOS ONE.
