John Bassett is the Policy and Scientific Development Director of the Institute of Food Science and Technology (IFST), developing and communicating scientific policy on behalf of the institute. IFST is the leading qualifying body for food professionals in Europe and the only professional body in the UK concerned with all aspects of food science and technology, with membership comprising individuals from a wide range of backgrounds, working across all aspects of food science and technology. It is a registered charity, with a charitable object to promote the advancement and application of food science and technology for the benefit, safety and health of the public. IFST is independent of government, industry and any other organisation.
John is a veterinarian by training and has 20 years’ experience of animal health and food safety risk assessment and risk management, in both industry and government roles. He also runs his own consultancy, John Bassett Consulting Ltd, on a half-time basis.
